I was on H-1B and got laid off in December. I filed a change of status from H-1B to B-2, and now I have a new job filing a change back to H-1B.

My question: once the new I-797 is approved, can I travel to India for a week with my old H-1B visa still valid until July? Is it safe to travel, and what should I say if the consulate or CBP asks for salary slips or proof of employment, since I’ll have just started the new job?
